Sessions
I offer 50-minute in-person counselling sessions in Belfast.
Sessions take place in a calm and confidential space where there is room to slow down, talk things through at your own pace, and begin to make sense of what feels difficult. You don’t need to have it all figured out - we start from where you are.
Working together
Therapy is a collaborative process, shaped by what feels most important for you to bring.
It is guided by your pace and what feels most helpful at any given time.
How Therapy unfolds
Therapy does not follow a fixed structure, but it often begins with what has brought you to counselling and what feels most present in your life right now.
From there, we may explore current experiences alongside patterns in how you relate to yourself and others. This can include noticing unhelpful beliefs, repeated patterns, and ways of relating that may have developed over time, including in earlier relationships and experiences.
Alongside this, we may also consider what feels important to you going forward, and what change or movement might look like in a steady and realistic way.
The process is flexible and responsive, guided by what feels most helpful at each stage rather than following a set agenda.
At times, we may also gently explore emotional experiences as they arise -including more protective, self-critical, or vulnerable feelings - and approach these with curiosity and care.
Where sessions take place
Sessions take place at Era Counselling on the Ormeau Road in Belfast, in a quiet and welcoming therapy space designed to feel comfortable and homely rather than clinical. The room is private and provides a consistent, uninterrupted setting for our work together.
The therapy room is located upstairs, with lift access available.
What happens when you get in touch
Two ways to begin
Option A: Brief introductory call
You can get in touch via the contact form or by email to arrange a short 15-minute introductory call.
This is a brief conversation where we talk about what you’re looking for and you can ask any initial questions.
After the call, you would be invited to complete a short written form with a few additional details before arranging an initial consultation.
Option B: Written enquiry first
You can get in touch via the contact form or by email.
You will then be invited to complete a short written form with a few additional details, before we arrange an initial consultation.
Initial Session (50 minutes)
At the beginning of our first session, we’ll go through our working agreement together, covering practical things such as fees, cancellations, confidentiality, and how we work together.
This first session also has an assessment element, which means I’ll ask some more structured questions to help me understand what’s bringing you to therapy, your current situation, and what you’re hoping for. While this can feel a little more formal than ongoing sessions, it is still a conversation, and you can take your time in how you respond.
This also gives us an opportunity to see how it feels working together and whether I feel like a good fit for what you’re looking for. It is a collaborative process throughout.
Together, we begin to get a sense of what might be most helpful moving forward.
This first session is charged at the usual rate.
Ongoing sessions
If we decide to continue, we arrange regular sessions and begin the ongoing therapeutic work.
